Tea
and Malaysia |
A company called BOH,
which was established by an Englishmen, by the name of J.A.Russell,
also in Cameron Highlands, owns Sungai Palas Tea Plantation. It
produces more than four million kg a year, which is about 70% of
local output and almost 50% for local consumption. It is the largest
tea plantation in Malaysia, which is about 1,200 hectare. Bharat
Tea Plantation, also in Cameron Highlands, was established in 1933
and it is the second largest tea plantation in Malaysia. The per
capita consumption of tea in Malaysia is about half kg in a year
and the annual demand of nine million kg. Local production is less
than five million kg.
